Building a BEF Force: Part 3 - Adding some Firepower

Again apologies for the long break - doesn't seem like I'm getting the hang of blogging regularly! Despite that I have made more progress on the BEF, finishing both the 2 Pounder Gun and the Vickers Machine Gun Team, hopefully giving the army a bit more of a punch - at Early War Standards at least.

As you can see I managed to fit both of them on a 60mm round base, I aim to minimise the base sizes so they aren't as clumsy during a game. Luckily with the exception of a possible 25 pounder all my gun teams will be able to fit on 60mm bases.

I've found that one of the few annoying things of building a 28mm all metal army is how much of a pain building the artillery guns can be. Slight bends and miscastings means that the fit will never be as flush as they are on plastic kits, and using super glue can be a double edged sword. Despite this the gun went together relatively well, I left the gunner of the gun until both were painted to make it easier. I based the other two crew members separately, makes for easier casualty removal and they didn't quite all fit on the base.

The quality of the crew members was noticeably worse than the rest of the BEF figures, the proportions seem slightly too thin, and the crew member on the right carrying the shell had a rather odd looking face. However I am not too concerned as these chaps will be sitting at the back laying in wait for enemy armour.

Unlike the 2 Pounder I decided that the Vickers Team would be better based together, since the gunner and the loader are clearly interacting and would look slightly odd with just the one figure based individually. These figures were off the same fantastic quality as the regular infantrymen, the detail making them easier to paint, and having less packs on them meant they were also quicker to paint

I did manage to get a chance to field them in a small game against a Blitzkreig German Force, which led to a minor victory for me when I was able to eliminate his Armour very luckily and quickly by turn 2 thanks to the 2 Pounder Gun, the MMG team on the other hand were not as luckily and went down to some sniper fire.

Up next is the first of the armour that will be painted, most likely an A13 Crusier.
